We are delighted to announce the winners and runners-up of our 2025 children's competitions, kindly sponsored by RSSB. It's never too early to start building safety together, and we were amazed by the engagement with this year's competitions. Well done to all the children who took part and congratulations to all our winners!
A big thank you to Bessie Matthews, who kindly provided the colouring competition artwork. Bessie is the author and illustrator of Arlo's Adventures and is a fantastic role model in the industry for inspiring young people to interact safely with the railway.
Age 4-6 Winners
1st Place: Toby (age 4)
Bright and cheerful, with a rainbow roof, smiling sun, and flower - Toby's colouring gives a warm, happy feeling for stations and train travel!
2nd Place: Juno (age 6)
Full of imagination, fun, and expression. Great colouring, attention to detail, and the addition of dinosaur passengers and stickers make it come to life while not distracting from the picture.
3rd Place: Isha (age 6)
Neat and beautifully coloured, with careful attention to detail - including purple accents on the train and individually coloured sleepers. A lot of care has gone into this!
Ages 7-9 Winners
1st Place: Daisy (age 7)
Beautifully coloured, with a woman train driver and a pretty banner across the top!
2nd Place: Charlotte (age 9)
Great thought put into the safety messages, with details like 'BTP 61016' and 'Do not cross the line,' showing careful attention to detail.
3rd Place: Olivia (age 9)
Bright yellow train with realistic ballast texture - true to life!
Ages 10-12 - 'Design Your Railway Station' Winners
1st Place: Barnaby (age 11)
Thoughtful design with meaningful detail! Did you know ‘shell’ is ‘concha’ in Spanish?
2nd Place: Arlo (age 9)
The safety aspects in this station design really stood out, as well as the inclusion of a bike shed which supports active travel.
3rd Place: Cotty (age 11)
The design and time that went into this station design is truly amazing!
