ARUP

As we mark Rail Safety Week, it’s a powerful reminder that the railway is not a playground—yet many young people and even adults still see it that way.

At Arup, we’re proud to support the Rail Safe Friendly Programme, a vital initiative working to ensure every school in the UK is enrolled by 2027. We believe that early education is key to preventing tragic, avoidable incidents. That’s why we’re committed to continuing this work and encouraging others to get involved.

This Rail Safety Week, we’re focusing on how smarter infrastructure can help protect both passengers and rail networks from the growing risks posed by extreme weather.

Our Weather Resilience and Drainage Asset Management Transformation project is helping Network Rail to take a more proactive approach to managing flood risks and drainage systems across the UK rail network. By combining data science, geospatial analysis and asset management, we’re reshaping how the railway prepares for – and responds to – the challenges of a changing climate.

Because a safer railway is a more resilient one.
