Safety doesn’t happen by accident.
Rail safety starts long before the first train runs. Through a systems approach, we embed safety from Day 1, ensuring every component, process and interface is designed with risk in mind. From concept to operation, safety is a core requirement.
But designing for safety isn’t just about preventing accidents. It’s also about creating a system that’s easier to operate, manage, and maintain. This positively impacts not only the riding public, but operators, maintainers, and anyone in proximity to rail operations who could be affected by hazards ranging from objects coming loose from trains and toxic fumes from fires to electromagnetic radiation/interference.
As an added bonus, designing for safety by taking a holistic view of the rail system will also reduce risk, lower costs over time, and lead to a more reliable and efficient rail service.
