It’s Rail Safety Week, and we’re highlighting some of the many different people in our organisation who are involved with rail projects. Our Head of Engineering explains how rail safety is a key priority even before trains are running:

Siân Pitchford said: “To me, safety is a key element to any project and any project stage.
“During concept and design development, safety and hazard reduction are essential considerations.
“Optioneering and option selection are underpinned by choosing the safest and most viable option – taking into account how people will access and use a facility, as well as how it will be constructed and maintained.
“It is imperative to eliminate as many hazards as possible throughout the entire project life cycle to keep everyone safe.”
