As we come to the end of Rail Safety Week, it is crucial that we reflect on current figures that highlight the need to ensure safety of railway workers.

The data from the Annual Health & Safety Report 2022/23 highlights a concerning trend. It indicates that while there have been efforts to improve safety for rail workers, the current levels show the need for continuous improvement.

The report underscores several critical areas contributing to safety incidents, including communication issues, training, and equipment. This depicts a much bigger issue that needs to be tackled: the multifaceted nature of safety challenges in the railway sector.

This is where digital technology comes into play. By leveraging digital solutions, such as Yokogawa’s RAP4 software, companies can proactively address the factors contributing to near misses and create a significantly safer working environment and enable a culture of safety excellence. This will ensure every rail worker gets home safe every day.

A shoutout to the organisers of Rail Safety Week for bringing the topic of railway safety to the forefront of people’s mind.
