Porterbrook shared how they are proud to be playing their part in several collaborative initiatives that are helping to improve safety across the network. Their project with Network Rail, One Big Circle Ltd, DG8 Design and Engineering and Machines With Vision addresses one of the highest risk assets in track engineering: switches and crossings inspections. Now, up to 50% of on-foot inspections are possible remotely using this new train-borne monitoring technology. Learn how it works.
Porterbrook also looked at how a risk-based approach, two-way communication across interfaces, and robust assurance arrangements can enable the safe delivery of projects; showcasing how the recent redevelopment of the Asset Management Facility at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre into a modern and versatile maintenance facility has resulted in:
- Zero safety events
- On-time delivery
- An open culture of reporting, enabling proactive actions to be taken to continually learn, and improve working methods and safety controls
- Collaboration across multiple organisations, enabling efficiency, consistency of approach, and a ‘one-team’ mindset
